This basement under went a major transformation from its old, dingy, and borderline scary appearance. The old recreational space was being used for both storage, gaming, and a home office. A leak from faulty plumbing in the kitchen above resulted in a section of drywall in the basement being destroyed, and the old laundry room was just about as scary as it gets.
The goal was to give this entire basement a major face lift in order to increase comfort, while doing so in the most cost efficient way possible. First, a wall was built to separate the storage area from the rec area, and the laundry room entranceway was framed out further to increase the footprint of the room. All the walls and ceiling were framed and enclosed with drywall, and then painted to create a far greater visual appeal. Several flooring options were considered, but simply painting the floor provided the best visual up lift while keeping the costs at a minimum. A strange shower was previously installed in the room, and was removed in favour of much needed storage shelves. The existing washer and dryer were still working great, so they were re installed with a new vanity, backsplash, and overhead cabinets.
The recreational area was given a big cosmetic improvement from the old carpet and paint. The homeowner had new floors installed, and the water damaged wall was torn out and fixed with new drywall. The entire basement was painted a nice neutral grey, with the TV wall getting a darker shade for contrast. Lastly, an existing wet bar in the basement was no longer getting use and was simply just taking up space. This bar was re purposed as a mantle for the TV with the cabinet doors being painted and a new counter top being installed to provide a great new area to be utilized within the home.
